Product Description Written by award-winning playwright and inveterate storyteller S. Bear Bergman, Butch Is a Noun picks up where gender theory leaves off. It makes butchness accessible to those who are new to the concept, and makes gender outlaws of all stripes feel as though they have come home--if home is a place where everyone understands you and approves of your haircut. From girls' clothes to men's underwear and what lies beyond, Butch Is a Noun chronicles the pleasures and dangers of living life outside the gender binary.

5 Star Butch Writing December 3, 2008 jewelz (ashland, oregon) I absolutely loved this book. An inspiration. A well crafted set of deep diving stories that take you to the heart-- of character.
Butch 101 June 20, 2008 Willa Cather This book was recommended to me and i enjoyed reading it. I would definately recommend it.
Well worth your time June 5, 2008 Kettin I purchased this book not knowing what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the author's emotions. Bear is very articulate as ze describes the warmth, comfort, and safety within the queer community versus the dangerous and painfully hurtful rest of the world. This book is educational but delightfully entertaining at the same time. I highly recommend it.
Love In Print! May 18, 2008 R. Robertson (San Francisco, CA.) I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in understanding the unique mystique of the butch woman.
A great read November 20, 2007 D. M. Johnson (The Deep South, USA) I found this book absolutely delightful. The author did a wonderful job of delving into topics that are generally spoken about, and ze did a wonderful job of painting an undiluted portrait of butches in general. A must read for all, especially parents with butch daughters.
