A great storyline that continues to deliver all the way through.... October 12, 2008 J Gent (Nashvegas, TN) Please do not be swayed by any ignorant individual who would rank this series or particular storyline as a 1 or even 2 star rating. The story is superb. The writing keeps well established characters consistently delivering their unique personality types and great look from years past and implementiing a renewed look and development of this story arc.
Simply put this is a don't miss series. Astonishing is in my top 3 of trades I must pick up at each release and read along with Wolverine and New Avengers. This is what comics are all about. FANTASTIC and FUN to read. Not annoying or overly Political or living with ridiculous over thought and under planned circumstances such as the Ultimates series.
Yay, Joss! October 10, 2008 Joe Sixpack -- Slipcue.com (...in Middle America) The fourth and final(?) installment in Joss Whedon's run at scripting the X-Men was a real tour-de-force. While the earlier books were all entertaining, this one really has the payoff. There's some deliciously tart, hilarious dialogue and several quintessentially Whedon-esque moments that will make fans of "Buffy" and "Dr. Horrible" snort aloud with laughter. Plus, several of the main characters get laid, approaching sex in a frank and unapologetic, non-fanboyish way that is quite refreshing to see in a mainstream superhero comic. The story is a doozy, too, mainly a well-plotted space opera with plenty of action and grit (and great art!) and an ending that was as suspenseful and propulsive as it was surprising and sad. (SPOILER TALK: Is Kitty Pryde really gone forever and ever? I doubt it, but having her blasted off into the far corners of the universe was kind of a shocker, especially after Whedon did such a great job developing the character and making her so believable, powerful and mature...)
Great book -- I hope to see more fun stuff like this from Whedon's wacky mind soon! (Joe Sixpack, ReadThatAgain book reviews)

Bravo, Joss! September 24, 2008 R. Wu I'm a diehard fan of Joss Whedon and the X-Men, and I could not be happier with the brilliant run he had on Astonishing X-Men, culminating in this Volume 4. I literally cried after I put it down because I found the story so moving and the emotion so real. Bravo, Joss! And thank you.
Wow! September 14, 2008 Atriedes247 (USA) I've followed the X-Men for many years now, and managed to read issues going back to the very beginning. I would like to think that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby would feel very proud of the stories that Joss Whedon and John Cassaday have put together. Filled with emotion, drama, and heart, the characters just continue to evolve. In fact, this was the first time that I liked Emma Frost. In these issues, the X-Men Cyclops, Beast, Kitty Pryde, Collosus, Wolverine, Emma Frost, and a room full of guest stars must learn the secrets of the Break World before the Break World comes after the Earth. It is the cataclysmic climax of the story begun in Astonishing X-Men #1. This volume contains Astonishing X-Men 19-24 and giant-Size Astonishing X-Men #1. Its well worth the money!!
