Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The series that created the zombie movement reaches its most pivotal, series-altering arc yet! They thought they were safe in the prison. They were wrong. A force far more deadly than the walking dead is at their door and when the dust settles, their rank will be reduced by more than half. No one is safe!

5 out of 5 stars HAH!!   November 9, 2008

Ok, so you've read Kirkman. Walking Dead? Invincible? Yah,I get it. Me too. But I specifically am an Undead fan. So I bought this book. I won't say anything about it BUT that this will turn your little zombie universe upside down. So stop pretending like you are reading this and just buy the damn book. You'll thank me, I know.

5 out of 5 stars Still blowing me away!   October 28, 2008
Zombilicious! (Houston, TX)
I heard about this series on boingboing.net and have been hopeless addicted since. I'm not a comic book person at all but I did like zombie movies growing up so I was intrigued by it. The thing about the series is that the zombies are almost superfluous. The story is really about the breakdown of society and how both the best and worst in us come out in that scenario. In EVERY issue, I have literally gasped upon turning at least one page. The writing is always excellent and the art very good but also consistent. It irks me when they change artist and the styles are vastly different from one issue to the next (this is a major reason I'm not a comic person). If you are interested in not just a comic book but an examination of the human condition at the end of civilization, read these. Now. You never know when the zombies will come for you.

5 out of 5 stars Things will never be the same   October 17, 2008
Goose (Az.)
Brace yourself, this installment of The Walking Dead, While thoroughly entertaining is very hard to take. It's the first comic that I've read that has almost moved me to tears. Though the series is still running, volume 8 feels like it's climax. The tension that was established in Vol.5 finally breaks and the result is a firestorm. The Governor looking every bit the part of a comic book villain(after surviving his mutilation from Michonne) wages total war on the prison stronghold. Having been castrated and half blinded by Michonne The Governor is fuel by blood lust and voes to kill everyone with in the prison. Like usual it's up to Rich to hold everything together and protect his wife and new born daughter. But there is only so much a beaten man stretched beyond his limits can do against the will of a madman. Vol.8 shows that this series has very little to do with Zombies. Yes, The Zombies are there but they basically act as a check against normal society, where it's the battle of aspects like hope against unshakable vengeance that take center stage in most of Walking Dead. Vol.8 is probably the most action packed Volume of the series but with the emotional bonds that I've forged with most of the characters, it's action I'd rather not have seen. "Made to suffer" will excite you, it will shock you but it will most likely break your heart and linger in you head for days. All signs of a brilliant comic. If you've been reading. Keep it up. The series is going in new and bold directions.

5 out of 5 stars Wow.   September 16, 2008
Shaun Mcalister (Arlington, Tx)
A week ago I bought volume 1 of The Walking Dead. The next day, I bought volumes 2-5. The next day I bought 6-8. This series, is relentless, disturbing, heart-breaking and fantastic in every possible horror way.

Fans of zombies, survival horror, clever writing, beautiful art or just good old fashioned loss of humanity, would be seriously remiss to pass on this series.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Volume, By Far; No "Sacred Cows"   September 15, 2008
Robert Darby (Houston)
By far his best volume yet, for Kirkman there are no "sacred cows". I was beginning to think the series was getting a bit stale, Kirkman just upped the ante. How much pain and suffering can poor Rick Grimes take? I don't know, but I'm really enjoying watching him go thru it. It's has been said, what doesn't destroy you, makes you strong. Once Rick truly learns that his survival is important, he will be a force to be reckoned with.
