Do they transcribe the Clipping? November 30, 2008 Mattowarrior (Madison, WI United States) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This transcription of the retail version of Death Magnetic is missing something obvious: there is no extra tablature to cover the noises made by the clipping on the album!
You would think they would at least an an extra line for the digital scratching. Alot of times in a tab book, Dream Theater's for example, they transcribe keyboard parts to guitar, etc, in case a guitarist wanting to do a cover of the piece doesn't have a keyboard player. Since there is no "digital distortion" player, we need an extra line for us to be able to reproduce the "crackles" live!
Death Magnetic November 16, 2008 Devon M. May (Columbus, OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The music book for Metallica's Death Magnetic is very accurate and why I bought it in the first place. it is better than trying to learn the songs on the internet which aren't as accurate.
Excellent Book November 10, 2008 cenobite81 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Metallica truly went back to the basics with this album. As usual, Cherry Lane did an excellent job transcribing the album. This book is quite accurate, and nicely laid out. I only have two minor issues with this book.
The first - is lack of chord diagrams on the first page of each song like they did in the other tab books. Even though I am proficient in reading music, I found this feature nice.
The second - are some disconnects between the tablature and actual music notation. In some locations the music staff is indicating a low G, but the tablature is correctly notating an open low E. I am shocked this was not caught at the editing phase.
In any case, if you want to learn how to play the songs on Death Magnetic, this is a great start.
What a book !!!! October 14, 2008 Eric Neveu (Montreal, Canada) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is great , easy tabs to learn, it's clear and accurate. Only negative side: No pics or introduction and interviews with the band, like a lot of metallica's tab books
excellent album - excellent book... September 30, 2008 Jerome Logue (Northern Ireland) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Real well laid out easy to read format - same as the other great Cherry Lane Metallica tab books. Not alot I can say really - is an excellent book - although if you were looking for some slightly 'easier' Metallica to start with you might want to look at the self titled/'Black' album. If you've pretty much got grips with most of the likes of Master Of Puppets and all the other great Metallica albums you'll really enjoy learning from this book - is really excellent...
