4 out of 5 stars Entertaining fantasy with minor flaws   December 30, 2008

PROS:

- Clear, easy to read writing. The pages just fly. Young and old can read this and like it.

- Endearing characters (dwarf and a kender).

- Excellent pacing.

CONS:

- Raistlin, the mage, becomes annoying after a while. He constantly acts like he is on a verge of death (coughing blood, little movement, needing help to walk, etc....), but he always manages to whip out a powerful spell that saves the day. After a while you begin to wonder if he's faking it or if the authors are overusing this technique.

- Tanis, the half-elf, is an uninspiring leader. I suppose the authors want him to be the reluctant leader archetype, but he has no real charisma. His wimpy beard only reinforces this. I never could get into Tanis, which is a pity since he was the leader.

- Weak, ambiguous ending. I won't give it away, but it didn't make complete sense. One character that should have died a heroic death, died a boring death.

CONCLUSION: I loved this book. I'm not sure how anyone could give it 5 stars, if you assume that Lord of the Rings is 5 stars. That's why I give it 4. All fantasy lovers will love it.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Series   October 8, 2008
Brandy Williams (VA)
As a fantasy genre lover, these books were really good. They were well written and the authors did a good job in developing the characters, which is not often seen done well. I was hooked from the very beginning and read all 3 in about a week. I am now onto the Legends trilogy. I hope it lives up to the standard set in Dragonlance. I highly recommend this series!
