Product Description
BAD KITTY IS BACK (AND BADDER THAN EVER!) when she is forced to take a bath in this hysterical new illustrated how-to for young readers. The following are some items you will need for Kitty’s bath: one bathtub, plenty of water, dry towels, a suit of armor, a letter to your loved ones, clean underwear (because stressful situations can cause “accidents”), an ambulance in your driveway with the engine running, and, oh, yeah, you’ll also need Kitty…but good luck with that! Since its publication in 2005, BAD KITTY has captured the hearts of cat lovers and haters alike. This time Kitty is at her worst in this riotous how-to guide filled with bad smells, cautionary tales of horror, and hopefully by the end…some soap. The funniest of any of Kitty’s adventures, though don’t tell her that.

Bad Kitty Great Book December 17, 2008 V. F. Rowan (Ellicott City, MD) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Our 7-year old read this book cover to cover tonight (we also just bought it today). She thought it was a riot. She's hesitant about chapter books and still is more at ease with picture books, but this book was perfect for her. It has a great balance of both types of books. She can read chapter books easily, but sometimes all the words, everything that is happening on one page, is overwhelming and tiring. With this, she can read, then have some fun as she muses over the hilarious illustrations. I would read Bad Kitty Gets a Bath if she only would put it down.
nice chapter book in the 'bad kitty' series December 10, 2008 Joe'sMom (Ayer, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading (and loving) "Bad Kitty" and "Poor Puppy", I was happily surprised to find a chapter book featuring our favorite bad kitty.
In this story, kitty has been playing hard with puppy and they both become very stinky and dirty. In the introduction, we get an explanation of how kitties typically clean themselves with their tongues; but as we soon learn, this time Kitty is so stinky and dirty that she will need an honest to goodness bath. Bathing a kitty is never an easy task and we try several different ideas. But in classic kitty style, Bad Kitty has some ideas of her own.
The age range listed for this book is 9-12. While there is nothing at all inappropriate in the story; the clever humor and use of sarcasm is more likely to be appreciated by kids 8+. My son is only 4, and while some of the humor was a little over his head, he was definitely able to follow along and, because he knows the characters so well, he still enjoyed the story. I also like that while the story reads like a chapter book, it doesn't sacrifice on the illustrations. There enough pictures in the story to keep even a younger child engaged. At the back of the book there is a glossary of some of the bigger words in the story. Even the glossary is done in a humorous and clever way.
The only criticism I have is that the illustrations are black and white and the pages have a grainy, newspaper print kind of feel to them. This just didn't feel like the same level of quality as the other bad kitty books. Just because it's a chapter book, it doesn't need to feel like a cheap paperback. I took one star off for that.
Perfect for emerging readers December 8, 2008 Jessica Wheeler (San Francisco, CA) My younger daughter is right at what I feel is the most difficult phase in learning to read. The easy books that are perfectly at her level are way too boring, and the more interesting books, i.e. the ones her older sister is reading, are way too hard. But, we recently discovered an absolute gem in Bad Kitty Gets a Bath by Nick Bruel.
We first met Bad Kitty a few years ago with the original alphabet book about a kitty forced to eat healthy vegetables. It starts, "She wasn't always a bad kitty. She used to be a good kitty, until one day...." You get the idea. Its good - one of those picture books I'm still happy to pick up because it is perfectly silly with humor that both kids and adults find funny. As opposed to say, Amelia Bedelia.
Now Bad Kitty is back in a chapter book and she needs a bath. The drawings are plentiful and expressive, and the pacing of the book is perfect for a 1st grader bored with Nate the Great but not quite ready for Geronimo Stilton. Some pages are a little more difficult with a lot of text, but then some pages have only a couple of lines or even just one word, such as "LICK" or "BATH". There are some difficult words in the book, but it is so engaging that Georgia was encouraged to struggle through them and ask what they mean. There is a glossary at the back of more difficult terms. Of course the glossary is just as silly as the rest of the book and includes a definition of glossary (as it should).
This phase of learning to read is challenging for me as a parent because I get impatient and find so many of the books at this level are mind-numbingly simple. At the same time, I know there is a part of Georgia that is reluctant to leap head first into reading by herself because it means I won't read to her as much. If I could find a hundred books like Bad Kitty Gets a Bath, I would be happy to stay in this phase for a long time. - Jessica Wheeler
Bad Kitty gets a bath is really funny ! October 31, 2008 Cassendanna Weintraub (Fleming Island, FL USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed this book although I believe it's for an older crowd than his previous books about Bad Kitty....the humor is more mature...really funny !
What a fantastic chapter book! October 28, 2008 P. D. Heller (Knoxville, Tn United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bad Kitty Gets a Bath is just what we have been waiting for! My eight year old has loved Bad Kitty for quite some time now so when we heard that a new book was out, we ordered it right away. We were not disappointed! From the pictures (my son was amazed that chapter books can have cool pictures) to the text, we were laughing and enjoying every minute of Bad Kitty! I was surprised to see that Amazon has Bad Kitty Gets a Bath for younger readers because, although younger readers will enjoy the story, older readers will LOVE this book and will be thrilled to share this book with you! We recently traveled to Grandma's house and due to space issues we told our son something had to be left behind. His solution was to unpack the Nintendo DS and leave Bad Kitty Gets a Bath right where it was, mixed with all his other 'treasures' to show Grandma. That is the best recommendation that a child can give! Two thumbs way up for Bad Kitty Gets a Bath!
