amazingly helpful October 19, 2008 Tamar Golany (Far Far Away) I am truly amazed by how helpful this book is. I never ever write reviews for books but this one really deserves one. I have two teenagers that I am at loss with, this book helps alot, the only problem is remembering what I read at the right time. That is a little frustrating . I truly understand why female animals eat their offspring.

What a great book! I have read many parenting books, and this one is the cream! The best of all the methods is included in this wonderful handbook. The intriguing appendices and resources put this book into the reference category. This one is a must-have!

Parenting advice that really works! December 11, 2007 L.C.D. (McLean VA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book teaches the difference between positive and negative communication and the proportion of each that is essential to establish good communications and maintain positive relationships with your children and your spouse. This very well written book contains many real world examples and situations families find themselves in, and lays out a plan to change the negative dynamics that have created behavior and discipline problems. The 80/20 rule and the 2 time rule are easy to understand and use, and the results that follow are immediate, gratifying and bring the joy back into parenting. I used these techniques with a difficult behavior problem I was having with a child, one that was ingrained for years that had not yielded with other methods, and my child made the positive changes almost overnight. In stead of being angry at me when I disciplined him, he was angry at himself for making the mistake, and changed his behavior. The discipline methods are gentle and loving, but firm and effective. The emotional climate in your house will become happier and your children and spouse will noticeably reward you the positive changes you seek. I highly recommentd this book.
The most awesome parenting book out there!!!! November 2, 2007 Judy Kropf (Garrison, NY) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Make this be your first (and last?) parenting book! This would make a great gift to anyone with children of any age. I absolutely adore "Raise Your Kids.."--it's truly the best parenting book I've ever read, and I've read many. Everything in this book that I've tried works--go figure! One might think, oh, right, another parenting book, how can there possibly be something new in this one that hasn't already been said before? True, Radcliffe presents ideas on limit-setting and emotional coaching that are similar to "How to Talk so Kids will Listen" (one of the first parenting books I ever read), but what makes this book so special is its emphasis on building the right relationship with your child, using the 80% positive vs. 20% negative, envisioning the adult you want your child to become and encouraging those qualities you want him/her to have in adulthood. "Raise Your Kids" also addresses the very real issues of parental anger management and the importance of keeping your cool while disciplining your kids appropriately and respectfully, and, all in all, raising them to interact respectfully with other people. Imagine a world in which everyone spoke to each other respectfully, without yelling! This is truly a superlative book. I keep putting it on my husband's bedside table for him to read, and then I keep taking it back to look at it again. Enjoy--it's a great read, and the principles can be helpful in all relationships, not just those with children!
