4 out of 5 stars Great Book -- For What It Is   August 31, 2010
M. Dobbs (Astoria, NY)
I just finished reading this book, and I am pretty impressed. The author is very knowledgeable about survival tactics, and there is a great deal of very useful information in the book. I certainly can't afford to do much of what he suggests, but the book does make a handy reference guide. It's one that I plan to leave on my shelf and refer back to going forward, as I try to prepare for SHTF.

I had a bunch of issues with the book, though. The editing was very, very poor, and was a distraction in places. The character development was weak, and the dialogue was stilted. The first 100 or so pages of the book plodded along -- it wasn't until I got to the last half that I couldn't put it down. The book was also heavy handed on the religion. In one passage, the heads of two survival groups meet, and one asks the other one whether his group is Christian. I can't see why that matters, as long as the people are good people.

I gave the book 4 stars despite the flaws because I took it for what it is: a survival manual not-so-cleverly disguised as fiction. Read it for the survival tips and use it as a reference guide, would be my advise. And don't let this be your only one, either (unless you're a millionaire). It's the first one I've read, but it won't be my last.

This is one of the coolest books that I have read. I don't normally read very much, especially not books that are 385 pages long, but I couldn't and didn't want to stop reading this. I took many notes and marked many pages with sticky notes. I plan on using this as a guide to prepare for what I need in the coming collapse of our nation due to the politicians in Washington. It's not just a R or D thing in Washington, it's the whole kit-n-kaboodle. They all could give a crap about you and me, they are just interested in lining their pockets and getting re-elected. A government that is powerful enough to give you everything, is powerful enough to take everything you have. Look in the news, are there any left that aren't corrupt? Since I am a strong Christian, I love how this book was written in a perspective that I can associate with. I enjoyed not reading swear words. I hope that our nation does not come to this and the Lord returns before my family will have to go through anything like this, but we need to prepare for something like this to happen in America. During the Tribulation the earth will be almost void of people. Do you know that there's only one way? Are you ready? It could be today.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Every American   August 25, 2010

This is an excellent book. Like One Second After, it is informative and instructive, but it is also an awesome story. I already read it, but bought a copy to read again and to pass around to friends.
