Ms Bonnefoux has taken the characters that were introduced in "Blood and Mind" and given them greater dimension, as well as daunting obstacles to face. Although I highly recommend reading the first book first, this novel can stand on its own as well.
Holly thinks she's getting away for a well-deserved vacation with her perfect (living) boyfriend, Ryan. She soon learns that going away doesn't always mean getting away and that she has a remarkable talent, besides Empathy and other PSI powers, for attracting trouble and handsome dead guys... who are more trouble! I love the way she reacts to situations and bad news with a sarcastic wit and the occasional temper flares (which prove to be more dangerous than expected). Holly's little world suddenly expands as she goes to the big city for the first time ever, meets more creatures than are supposed to exist, and has to deceide between a safe nonbeliever boyfriend and chemistry with a deadly vampire; all without a decent night's sleep!
The mystery wraps up in an action-packed climax riddled with emotional scenes and blood and gore galore! This book is a fantastic combination of horror, fantasy, romance, who-done-it, and humor. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down.
