| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse is novel set in the near future that describes a full scale socioeconomic collapse. More than just an exciting read, it is packed with useful survival and preparedness tips. It was described by one reviewer as "A survival manual neatly dressed as fiction."
An earlier short draft edition of the novel was distributed as shareware on the Internet in the early 1990s. At the time, despite the relatively small readership of the Internet, it had more than 82,000 downloads, making it the nets most popular shareware novel of the decade. It was hosted at seven mirror sites on three continents.
"Patriots" is distinctly pro-Christian, pro-preparedness, pro-gun ownership, and anti-racist. It is considered a "must read" by those are concerned with the fragility of our society, and those interested in preparedness. It is also popular in Libertarian circles. "Patriots" was authored by James Wesley, Rawles, the editor of www.SurvivalBlog.com

A good reference manual in story form. January 5, 2009 R. Carwile So the book hinges upon a imminent The End of The World As We Know It scenario. Which fits in frighteningly well with the current failing world economy. The story is a bit stiff but has a interesting and discernible plot but relatively static characters. The "gun show" argument given by one of the characters was interesting if not irrelevant. (Although it will make many people think the book is pro-militia.) Only someone with political power and Clinton-esque savvy would be able to pull off the verbal hair splitting that the character was espousing. I enjoyed the book which, on a personal level, is I guess all that really matters. It did make me want to read "Atlas Shrugged" again. As stated in the subject line the books strength is in its references. It has numerous ideas of items of how would could prepare for a worst case scenario. (Like a hurricane or something.) I really enjoyed it from a product placement standpoint. It gave me names and manufacturers of items that are of interest. i.e. mini wind turbine and solar panel manufacturers.
Great book and very timely December 29, 2008 miklaw2 (Evansville, Indiana USA) This is an excellent book. I wish I could have read it as soon as it came out. It is well written and very detailed. It has sparked several ideas and precautions that I want to take in the here and now and the future. I would recommend it highly.
Patriots, Surviving the Coming Collapse December 22, 2008 S. White (Tennessee) Well written and very informative for those who are interested in becoming more self reliant. Although this is a work of fiction, the premis is very similar to what is happening with our economy and around the world. Not for the timid reader but a definite wakeup call for those who have not done even mimimal preperation for an emergency. Everyone needs to be able to take care of their families for an extended period without basic services or help from outside agencies.
Interesting take on survival novel December 21, 2008 Scott 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is as much a how to manual as it is a survival fiction novel. The amount of research and knowledge contained in this book are impressive, but it makes for a different kind of reading. The characters speak in long, detailed conversations that are unrealistic, but necessary to explain a process or technique. The characters are also devout Christians, and never curse. They retain Mr. Rogers like dialogue even while getting shot at, which I find a little unbelievable.
I enjoyed the book thoroughly, and learned quite a bit from it, but only the most dedicated survivalists can or will employ the majority of techniques described in its pages. Most people don't have the will or the means to make custom steel shutters and doors, or practice patrolling and adopt military tactics. This book definitely made me think though, and brought up many things I had never thought of.
The author incorporates politics and individual rights issues into the book as well, which is very fitting and pertinent for this type of novel. The scenarios he portrays are chillingly realistic and we might well have seen the beginnings of some of them. From gun rights to the UN, there are a lot of different areas covered.
Overall this is a very entertaining and thought provoking book. I enjoyed reading it and learned quite a bit from it. It also introduces other books and references that are valuable resources to any library.
