Product Description The dawn of the Destroyermen an imaginative alternate history saga.
Pressed into service when World War II breaks out in the Pacific, the USS Walkera Great-War vintage four-stacker destroyerfinds itself in full retreat from pursuit by Japanese battleships. Its captain, Lieutenant Commander Matthew Patrick Reddy, knows that he and his crew are in dire straits. In desperation, he heads Walker into a squall, hoping it will give them coverand emerges somewhere else.
Familiar landmarks appear, but the water teems with monstrous, vicious fish. And there appear to be dinosaurs grazing on the plains of Bali. Gradually Matt and his crew must accept the fact that they are in an alternate worldand they are not alone. Humans have not evolved, but two other species have. And they are at war.
With its steam power and weaponry, the Walkers very existence could alter the balance of power. And for Matt and his crew, who have the means to turn a primitive war into a genocidal Armageddon, one thing becomes clear. They must decide whose side theyre on. Because whoever they choose to side with is the winner.

Excellent start to a trilogy November 22, 2008 Tom in Texas (Plano, TX USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first book in what is scheduled as a trilogy. So if you buy this book, be prepared to buy the two follow ups (one is already out, the other is due in February 2009).
The premise is that a couple of decrepit WWII destroyers that are fleeing the Japanese find themselves transported to an alernate Earth where the geopraphy is largely the same, but the dinosaurs never went extinct. The destroyer crews soon find out that they've been transported from one war to another, as this world has a fight to the death between two intelligent species.
The action is engaging, the good guys hold your sympathy, and the bad guys are truly chilling. We, the readers, will draw parallels between what is happening is this world and what happened during WWII -- but the characters in the book don't know that, because they don't yet know about the Nazi death camps and the way that the Japanese treated their prisoners. In this regard, I give the author credit -- his characters act and behave in a manner consistent with individuals who have the knowledge and attitudes of people from 1942.
If you like military science fiction, this one is worth reading.
Outstanding! October 24, 2008 James Bryan (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Taylor Anderson has been a friend for many years...I have long respected his artistic abilities and his devotion to accuracy in his historical reenactments. Taylor, as many know, did the artillery work on the latest Alamo motion picture. But, who knew he could write!!?? And, write well!!
Thank you, Taylor, for a great read created as I would have expected you to do....ships and equipment accurate to the last bolt...characters developed to the point of almost stepping off the page. I can't wait to start the next one!
Entertaining October 14, 2008 D. Lary (Centreville, MD United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Entertaining book, but an obvious ripoff of William R. Forstchen's lost regiment series. If you liked this book, you should try Forstchen's series. The Union Forever (Lost Regiment)

I loved this book. This is the first book and can't wait for the other books. If you like military sci-fi/alternate history this is a good book to buy. It is well worth your money.
