Product Description
There's a serial killer on the loose in Los Angeles and the local authorities need help fast. For some reason the killer has been leaving a string of maddeningly arcane clues at each crime scene. Each of these clues, it seems, is an indecipherable roadmap to the next murder.

Onto the scene comes L, the mysterious super-sleuth. Despite his peculiar working habits - he's never shown his face in public, for example - he's the most decorated detective in the world and has never tackled a cased he hasn't been able to crack.

But this time he needs help.

Enlisting the services of an FBI agent named Naomi Misora, L starts snooping around the City of Angels. It soon becomes apparent that the killing spree is a psychotic riddle designed specifically to engage L in a battle of wits. Stuck in the middle between killer and investigator, it's up to Misora to navigate both the dead bodies and the egos to solve the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases.

5 out of 5 stars Smart, unique story   January 8, 2009

Addictive, smart, and unique writing. I loved the memorable names, which let me focus soley on the case and not struggling to remember who was who. I thought it was a REALLY brilliant idea, because it's less of a story if you forget the victim's relation to the order of events. Why force the reader to constantly check back to remember who was who? Kudos to NISIOISIN!

**POSSIBLE SPOILER**
Normally I HATE movies/stories that are mostly mediocre just to set up an incredible payoff, because I'd rather just skip straight to the payoff and not waste time tolerating boring filler. This novel has that incredible payoff, HOWEVER the dialogue, character development, and just overall writing style are so gripping that it never falls into the normal "lame-story-then-big-payoff" trap.

Oh, and bonus points for the beautiful art insert. :D

4 out of 5 stars A worthy read for readers who miss Death Note   January 4, 2009
Golden-Flute
When I first received the book, I was a little shocked that it was actually a reading book and not a comic-like manga. Not that that's a bad thing, I was just used to reading the Japanese-style stuff. However, it did not stop the book from being pretty interesting.

Even though the author sometimes spoon-feeds clues to us through Mello's voice, there was still plenty to figure out on your own and the twist at the end is one that Obha and Obata would be proud of. It's also a really good read if you're a big L fan. Since the book is written from the point-of-view of Mello, he's able to give us little tidbits on L life, prior to the book, which is pretty interesting.

I gave it four stars because while it was good and entertaining and a book that anyone can enjoy, the fact that a lot of things were spoon-fed put a little damper on the writing style. Otherwise, it's definitely worth a look!

Book itself looks so great... At the first page is a beautiful artwork with Takada and L or BB...

5 out of 5 stars Worth reading. However...   September 15, 2008

The story of this novel is indeed interesting. It shows events before the appearance of death note and Kira. If you are a fan of death note, this novel is a must read. However, if you are a big fan of L (like me), the ending of the story will be a disappointment for you. The novel is great overall. In the end, you'll find some interesting facts that have never shown in the anime.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!   August 14, 2008
David Cummins (Wellsville, NY USA)
This was a very quick read and, like the anime and manga of Death Note, is intense and exciting even with little real action. The silly names of some of the characters are a litte strange at first, but I got used to them. I would reccomend anyone who reads this book watch at least the first 7 or 8 episodes of the Death Note anime or read the first volume or two of the manga BEFORE reading Another Note. Anyone totally unfamiliar with Death Note just won't get the full effect of the story.
