I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover but I frequently do. I can't help it and I'm sure I'm not alone in this practice. So when it was time to review another book for Thomas Nelson Publishers, I couldn't resist the little boy jumping into a lake with his flippers and snorkel gear on the cover of the book entitled Fearless.
As soon as I opened the book, I was not disappointed. The author, Max Lucado, writes in an easygoing style that makes him immediately relatable. The focus of the book is on allowing our lives to be governed by faith rather than fear. Although the subject matter is a serious one, there is a touch of humor incorporated within that makes this book a particularly easy read.
Each chapter begins with a modern day example of a situation in which the author or another person is fearful. The fear comes in the form of doubt, uncertainty, and other issues to which everyone can relate. The author then takes it a step further by incorporating stories of the Bible to show that our struggles are timeless and universal. And he does so in a way that is not pushy or judgmental, which is a key reason why I enjoyed this book.

Max Lucado's understanding of the gospel of Christ, and his ability to make it relevant to our lives never ceases to amaze me. In "Fearless" Lucado is able to preach without leaving the reader feeling "preached to." Lucado mixes scripture references with his own thoughts and experiences, helping the reader to better understand how Christ's teaching apply to us.
"Fearless" teaches the reader how to let go of the things we can't control, and give our fears to God. There are rational fears that we will experience, but when we let our fears overtake our faith, we do ourselves a disservice. Lucado uses parables to teach, following the example of our Savior.
Max Lucado asks us to imagine our lives without fear, and then explains how that is possible. I am giving "Fearless" 5 stars, because it left me feeling inspired, uplifted, and hopeful. It helps me to remember that God loves us and will not abandon His children.

I received this book free from Book Sneeze and I loved it. I would read it each night before going to bed and I would wake up the next morning in the best mood. I love how Max Lucado related many of his stories to the Bible. He is a great author and I would suggest getting this book to anyone especially if you are needing a pick me up.

Living without fear. Is that really possible in today's age? When we hear of layoffs, economic disaster, tidal waves, earthquakes our first response is fear. How can we change that? Is it really possible to respond to these types of disasters with a response of faith and not one of fear?
This book is an amazing reminder of how we as Children of the King, the one who controls everything can put our trust in him. The phrase that stuck with me the most was. Why does God love us so much? The same reason the artist loves his paintings or the boat builder loves his vessels. You are his idea. And God has only good ideas. "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
What an awesome reminder!!

Max Lucado has crowned his already impressive list of literary accomplishments with his best inspirational title yet. Fearless cuts to the heart of the human sickness fear with a sharpened edge of quick wit, artistic writing, and a style that reminds me a lot of Dickens... Lucado's prose reads like poetry, so much so that it's easy to get so caught up in the language that one entirely forgets the point of the chapter. Nonetheless, if you can keep your head above water, you will find that Fearless is filled with wisdom, insight, and timely stories which beautifully illustrate the concepts the author is trying to communicate.
If you struggle with fear of any kind, you will find hope, comfort, and courage in the pages of this masterfully composed book, and you may want to go a step further with the study guide in the back. Three cheers and two thumbs up!
