Product Description For courses in Language Arts Methods for the Elementary School. With a powerful new CD-ROM, this sixth edition of the number one language arts text on the market offers comprehensive treatment of four classic instructional approaches to integrating all six research-identified language arts into school curricula. Calling approaches "patterns of practice," the author adroitly combines them into a seamless presentation that will show prospective teachers how to foster and encourage language arts learning by students of all backgrounds, abilities, and interests. Thorough discussions are bolstered by specific coverage of strategies and skills; and, all are enriched by real classroom vignettes, authentic student artifacts, and the insight culled from the author's many years of experience.

Excellent resource for Language Arts Teachers December 25, 2007 J. Adair (Tulsa, OK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have recommended that the students in my class keep this textbook for future use. It is chock full of strategies, research to back up those strategies, book lists and classroom examples. The author gives step by step instruction on how to set up the four classroom strategies for teaching the language arts. This information is invaluable and even the most inexperienced teacher could use the book to set up a viable language arts classroom. The DVD that comes with the book allows us to see inside the classrooms of "exemplary" teachers and watch how the strategies work in the real world. Well worth the money.
A wealth of information April 13, 2000 K. Hogan (Detroit, MI) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Finally, I was required to a buy a book that I will actually use again. Both pre-student and veteren teachers will enjoy this book. It contains a wealth of strategies for teaching kids how to write. Although there is a a lot of great information however, if your like me you don't have tons of time for reading through all the historical and case study information. Each section is clearly explained so it's great to just pick and choose what you are looking for.
